Alexander "Alex" D. Bommarito
July 19, 1973 - May 23, 2023
Freeland, Michigan
Passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday morning May 23, 2023 at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by his family at the
age of 49 years. Alex was born July 19, 1973 in Gross Pointe, MI to Alexander A. and Mary M. (Lynch) Bommarito and has lived in the Freeland majority of his life. Alex graduated from Freeland High School in 1991, where he played football, basketball, baseball
and golf. His “old school” classmates and friends called him “Al.”
The Freeland Athletic Association was important to Alex because of his involvement in sports in high school. His
parents, especially his mother were involved with the community and put together the very first FAA Millionaire Party fundraiser many years ago. He remained involved in this party throughout his life. Alex continued this legacy by serving the FAA as the
Vice President and Millionaire Party Chairman until his death.
After high school, Alex attended Michigan State University completing his first year of studies before returning
home to attend Delta College and SVSU. Alex obtained his Bachelor of Science with a major in Biology, minor in Chemistry at SVSU December, 1995. After completing some course work in the MBA program at SVSU, he left to attend the University of Akron School
of Law, Juris Doctor 1999 graduating in the top 1/3 of his class.
He worked his way through law school as a Patent Agent. Following graduation from law school he passed the bar
exam in Ohio and the Patent Bar Exam. He remained employed as a patent attorney in Ohio for several years. He was very proud of securing numerous patents for his family’s business.
After taking and passing the Michigan Bar Exam, Alex returned to Freeland, Michigan to work in civil litigation
for Collison and Collison in Saginaw. He met his future wife at the Saginaw County Bar Association Christmas Party in December, 2003. They married on October 29, 2005.
In 2011, he achieved another long time goal of opening his own law practice in Freeland, Michigan where he served
many clients in a variety of areas.
Alex was proud to be a Licensed Builder. He worked in construction throughout his college years and hung his tool
belt in his closet while in law school for added motivation to succeed in his studies. He had decided that from that point forward if he strapped on his tool belt it would because he wanted to and not because he needed to for income. This year, he successfully
achieved his lifelong dream of building his own home for his family in Freeland on the property where he grew up. He and his family moved in last fall.
Alex was his father’s fishing buddy and an avid deer hunter who had the opportunity to shoot a few monster bucks.
He was a man of great faith and regularly attended St. Agnes Parish where he served on the Finance Committee.
Alex was a Former Freeland Little League Board Member, and enjoyed coaching his girls in T-Ball and Coach Pitch
even sponsoring their team and proudly wore a purple jersey, the color requested by his daughter Julia that year. He loved watching his girls play sports especially Freeland FORCE Soccer.
He was Past President of the Saginaw County Bar Association receiving the F.H. Martin Award for his active involvement
in Law Day Activities. According to his sister, Alex’s favorite color was Rust as was displayed on some of his tractors. Alex was a lifelong Spartan Fan and loved attending MSU Football games. Alex was an active Member of the Freeland Chamber of Commerce,
and a member of Field and Stream Club. He held strong in his faith and had strong opinions, loved all things John Wayne and John Deere, and was a master at Godfather Trivia. Alex’s favorite bar was the Log Cabin Bar and Grill in Freeland and a special stop
was made there on his wedding day before the reception.
Over all of the things he accomplished, his proudest achievements were Julia and Ashlee. He loved being their dad,
watching them grow and teaching them every chance he got, especially with math homework.
He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many. He will be missed by all,
especially his family. Alex is survived by his wife Lori, daughters; Julia Bommarito and Ashlee Bommarito, his parents; Al and Mary Bommarito, a brother; Mike (Paula) Bommarito, a sister; Bridget (Ryan) Barle, his father and mother-in-law; Gary and Gail Pretzer,
brothers-in-law; Keith (Katie) Pretzer, Joel (Kristi Lee) Pretzer. Alex is also survived by many nieces, nephews and countless friends. Grandparents; Sam and Bridget Bommarito and Dan and Marie Lynch have predeceased Alex.
