Obituary for Robert "Bob" Edgar Bright
Robert passed into eternal life on July 31, 2020. He was an honorable man of faith who served his God, his family and his country. He cherished his wife Katie, who preceded him in death, his eight children and his 38 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Robert Edgar Bright was born October 16, 1923 in Saginaw, Michigan to Edgar Samuel and Mary Cathryn (Gregway) Bright. He lived his early years in Detroit and later years in Saginaw where he spent many of his days working in the family grocery store. Bob went
to St. Andrew High School where he grew in his faith.
Robert attended Bay City Junior College for a year and a half before joining the Army Air Corp. At BCJC he met Kathryn (Katie) Titus, the love of his life. They were married on June 26, 1948 in Saginaw where they later raised their family. He continued his
education at the University of Michigan where he graduated with a law degree in 1951. He was a lifelong Wolverine fan and spent 75 years of football Saturdays wearing his maize and blue.
Faith and family went hand-in-hand for Bob and Katie. They were very active members of St. Stephen Catholic Church and School in Saginaw where his children attended. Bob did everything from presiding over school board meetings to chaperoning high school dances.
He loved spending time with his family at their cottage in East Tawas, MI and eventually retired to his home there.
Robert also practiced law in Saginaw for several decades. He was Justice of the Peace in his early career and finished his last years as a District Judge for Saginaw County.
Bob loved reading history. He was especially interested in the Civil War and enjoyed collecting memorabilia from that era.
Bob will be remembered with great love by his eight children. Mary (Patrick) VanTiflin of Clarkston, Susan Bright of Ypsilanti, Kathleen (Mark) Smith of Ann Arbor, Bob Bright (Cyndi)
of Saginaw, Patricia (Michael) Griffin of Milwaukee, WI, Martha (Michael) Buckmaster of Saginaw, Anne Bright of Freeland, Joseph Bright of Wausau, WI; 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and his dear sister-in-law Dorothy Titus of East Tawas. He was
preceded in death by his wife and parents.
