Obituary for James R. Meyer
Jim passed away at his home, with his wife at his side, on Thursday, March 30, 2023. He was 89 years old. James Ray Meyer was born on August 1, 1933, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Edward and Mary (Gardejko) Meyer. Jim married Janice K. (Winterstein) Meyer
on January 23, 1960, in Saginaw, having enjoyed 63 years of marriage, and she survives him. Jim is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Kay (Meyer) McCann; granddaughter, Madyson Rae Migliozzi-Smith; several nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy
(Dolly) Winterstein. Jim was predeceased by his son, James R. Meyer II; his siblings, Arvella Meyer, Gladys and William Kubik, Betty and Leo (Smokey) Boyd, Edward and Frances Meyer; his brother-in-law, Lee Winterstein; and his wife’s parents, Waldemar and
Emma Winterstein.
Jim graduated from Arthur Hill High School, class of 1951. He attended Michigan State University and graduated from Detroit College of Law. Jim practiced law in Saginaw for over 50 years. He enjoyed fishing, was an avid Tigers, MSU, and Lions fan. He especially
enjoyed all activities with his family.
Jim served in the United States Army. He enlisted on September 1, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan. During his tour of duty, he was stationed in Germany for 25 months and was then honorably discharged on August 31, 1958, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois.
In accordance with Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will have a private memorial at a later date.
