Members,
Saginaw County has recently garnered some national attention connected to the case of Corey Harris, a man who appeared for a DWLS hearing on zoom in front of a Washtenaw County Judge while driving his vehicle. Following the event being
shared on social media, Mr. Harris responded to media reports indicating his license suspension was rescinded by a Saginaw County Judge in 2022 and because of a clerical error by the Friend of the Court, the suspension recission was never sent to the Secretary
of State. This was then printed by numerous media outlets who have reached out to the Saginaw Friend of the Court for a response.
Contrary to Mr. Harris’ statements, there was no clerical error committed by the Court or the Friend of the Court. Mr. Harris failed to pay required fees to obtain a clearance form to lift the license suspension after the recission order
was entered. For your information, the attached media release was sent to the outlet’s who requested a response from the Friend of the Court. If you have any questions, you may direct them to me or Chief Judge Gafkay.
